Cinespace

Rating:Rating 4.0

Cinespace puts a clubbing twist to the classic dinner and a movie. On the weekend from 7-10 p.m. they serve dinner and have a movie screening all at once, but once 10 p.m. hits it goes through a transformation and turns into bumping club, showcasing today’s hottest DJs.

Cinespace consists of three medium-sized brick rooms that after the dinner plates have been cleared it grows to be dancing sweat box - on the right night - with the majority of the people dancing, and dancing hard, or trying to get to the main dance floor, all paying due respect to the DJ. The floor gets wild as it becomes a pulsating mob, moving to whatever music is thrown on.

If you need a break from the dance floor there is a really nice open-air patio for smokers, and guys trying to get a word in with the girl they’ve been dancing with for the last hour.

Dim Mak was playing their usual Tuesday night set last time MapBuzz was there, and DJ Them Jeans put on a show that had people in all rooms (even the patio) dancing.

The food here is not the best, but it’s a great way to watch a movie and not pay a cover to get into the club. Cinespace stands out because of the great DJs it brings in, and the crowd’s devotion to dance all night.

L.A. Gun Club

by Wilson Standish

Rating:Rating 5.0

There’s no debate that shooting a gun is a sexy feeling - maybe that’s why popping off a few rounds at the L.A. Gun Club is replacing after dinner drinks for many hip couples, not to mention Xzibit and 50 Cent.

All you have to do is put down a license, and in about 10 minutes you can be putting holes through paper-perps.

L.A. Gun Club has an array of handguns to try with a rental fee, but if you want a bigger bang take a crack at the rifles and shotguns. We started with a .45 and then stepped it up to a .44 magnum that looks like it belongs in a John Wayne movie and kicked like a mule.

If you go after 9 p.m. you’ll find lots of people coming from dates. The girls are shooting revolvers in high heels, and the guys are in coat and ties.

The nerve-rattling vibrations from the guns may scare you at first, but soon become therapeutic as you start laughing and get the joy and excitement of a little kid.

The L.A. Gun Club is a great friendly facility, and the staff is there to help the most novice of shooters, and is the most original and exciting way to end a date – well, almost.
